English is very important in education. It is the medium or language of instruction. And why not, it is the global language in which everyday activities all over the world is spoken in. English is the language of the world and so it is taught and used in education because education is preparation for the greater world of the students' future.
· Mathematics – Let us start with a subject that deals with numbers and not letters or words as English. Mathematics uses English and it is very important in it. On second thought, Mathematics is not only about numbers, it is also about letters and words and at a very important aspect, too. Math is incomplete without English. We cannot have problem-solving without words and we cannot study and learn each lesson in Math without using English to let us know and understand each lesson. To be more precise, an answer in Math will be wrong if the words in the mathematical problem are wrongly stated or wrongly understood. Adding and subtracting involves the tenses past, present and future. For example, without a good understanding of English, you can mistake the question how many is left with how many will you deduct.
· Science – Imagine describing the different species without a good knowledge of the English language. Scientific studies will not be successful, let alone possible without the aid of excellent English. In fact, science research is a form of English writing in the academic genre.
· Accounting, Engineering and Other Technical Studies – There would be no glossary or index of terms and their definitions without English. The authors of the texts in these subject areas who contribute to the bodies of knowledge of these fields used English in doing so. You also need to have enough English skills to be able to read and understand them if you are to study them in the pursuit of a college degree.
